It is confirmed today that 009-1 THE END OF THE BEGINNING, a live-action adaptation film of Shotaro Ishinomori’s classic manga 009-1 will be released in Japan on September 7th as his 75th birthday anniversary project. The Sci-Fi spy action manga was published in Japan from the mid 1960s to early 1970s and a 12-episode TV anime series was produced by Ishimori Entertainment in 2006. It is also known as an adult version of one of Ishinomori’s most famous works, Cyborg 009.
The new live-action film is directed by Koichi Sakamoto who is best known for his stunt directing works for the long running Power Rangers series. Recently he has worked on various Japanese tokusatsu TV series and films including Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, Kamen Rider Fourze, Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy, and Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Fourze & OOO: Movie War Mega Max. Of course Sakamoto also works as the action director for the film. The lead character, female
cyborg spy Miléne Hoffman is played by 26-year-old actress Mayuko Iwasa. The most famous action
flick in her acting career was a 2012 ninja film SHINOBIDO.
The R-15 film 009-1 THE END OF THE BEGINNING opens in selected Japanese theaters on September 7th.
